Embrace the inner child in you
Undoubtedly, childhood is one of the most cherished times in anyone's life. We commonly have moments and experiences during this period that make us think back on our early years, with some of us even wishing we could go back in time to relive those happy moments. Personally, I frequently experience these nostalgic sentiments when I go to stationary or toy stores. In an attempt to transport readers to those enchanting days of our lives, I have penned down this post.
It's interesting to observe how the interests of kids these days revolve around video game scores and Instagram reels, which seem quite contradictory to the games we used to play. We engaged in activities like carom, business game, seven stones, hopscotch, and many more. Additionally, we had our own set of seasonal games, including "Kaun Banega Crorepati," spell bee competitions, roadside cricket matches, and badminton.
Kids nowadays effortlessly learn and sing songs from YouTube and Instagram, which reminds me of the simpler times when we had tape recorders and Walkmans. I recall buying ash-coloured lyric papers that costed around a rupee, and we would excitedly memorize the lyrics and sing along. Our video options were limited to channels like Sun Music and Isai Aruvi. It's amazing to see how much things have changed.
In our childhood, we found great joy in the simple things that held significance for us, such as receiving new brown sheets for our books, bags, water bottles, and Tiffin boxes, geometry box on our first day of school. Particularly, we were thrilled when we got new dresses for occasions like Diwali and birthdays. We would eagerly wear them at home at least five times before the actual event. The excitement surrounding Diwali was mainly centered around new clothes and firecrackers. Moreover, I cannot forget the anticipation of watching the movies that would be telecasted during Diwali. The festivities wouldn't be complete without hearing the iconic line "India tholaikatchil muthal muraiyaga, thiraiku vandu sila mathangale aana..."
Perhaps in today's world, where we can easily obtain things whenever we want, we have lost some of the excitement and appreciation we once had. This realization strikes a chord with me, as the easiness of access has taken away some of the joy associated with these experiences. Although I didn't go to theaters frequently, I never missed the opportunity to watch movies on the channels. However, now we have the convenience of watching movies on OTT platforms whenever we want to.
Indeed, I cannot overlook the immense joy from watching cartoon series like "Popeye the Sailor Man," "Jackie Chan Adventures," "Dora the Explorer," "My dear bootham","Ji boom ba"as well as engaging in game shows like "Thanga Vettai," "Deal or No Deal," and "Jackpot." The list could go on and on. We would eagerly rush from school to ensure we didn't miss a single episode. Additionally, the last day of our annual exams brought forth delightful moments as we celebrated by sprinkling ink, playing with color powders, and ice creams from automans. Those memories hold a special place in our hearts.
While we are undoubtedly grateful for the advancements in technology and the inventions that have made our lives easier, sometimes I feel a sense of being lost in the journey of adulthood. There are numerous movies and songs that we can relate to childhood. One such song from that list is "Veyilodu Vilayadi Veyilodu Uravaadi." The line "Veyila thavira vaazhkaiyila, Vera enna arinchom" signifies the innocence and simplicity we once possessed..
We must never lose touch with our inner child and always embrace the joy and wonder that life brings. It's crucial to hold onto our inner child and find happiness in the simple pleasures that make life truly beautiful.
